I do think that teachers need to teach digital instruction. Social media is everywhere! Students need to learn how to be responsible with it. Students create a social identity. However, one misstep, once placed on the internet, could spread like wildfire and could end up in the wrong hands. Dangerous situations could occur. This is only one of many reasons that digital instruction should take place in our schools.
1. Out of you hands:
2. Be a digital citizen
I totally agree that teachers need to teach digital instruction to today's learners. My only concern is that I do not feel confident enough in my computer skills to do this. However, after watching the video of Mr. Pane, I feel I could teach students about internet safety and responsibility.
I thought Mr. Pane created a great lesson on teaching kids how to use the internet safely and responsibly by making good choices. He had the students build comics and create superheroes who would step in when they were making the wrong choice on the internet. For example, one student was told she would win a new IPAD and all she had to do was enter her home address. The superhero she created stepped in and told her that it is not a good idea to enter your personal information on the internet. Students designed their character, built the complete narrative, used dialogue to communicate with the superhero, and established an entire visual presentation based on becoming a good digital citizen. Since they made it about themselves, thhe learning that took place was more meaningful... GREAT lesson overall.
With a rich backgroundin early childhood education, teaching and technology, my goal is to collaborate with teachers in an effort to create technology-enhanced instruction.
